Online archive counts do not represent the journal’s entire historical output. The percentage is the number accepted divided by all recorded submissions, including submissions without a final decision. It is not an acceptance rate calculated only from completed decisions. These cumulative system figures do not predict an individual manuscript’s outcome or processing time.

Physical Geography Research

Physical Geography Research (JPHGR), Iran’s oldest geography journal, is an open-access, peer-reviewed quarterly journal published by the University of Tehran Press, with scientific support from the Iranian Association of Geomorphology. It publishes research on physical geography and environmental processes, including interactions between natural systems and human activities.

Journal at a glance

  • Publisher and owner: University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran; published by the University of Tehran Press.
  • Frequency and format: Quarterly; articles available online.
  • Language: Persian, with English titles and extended English abstracts.
  • Print ISSN: 2008-630X; Online ISSN: 2423-7760.
  • English quarterly title: Physical Geography Research Quarterly.
  • Abbreviation: JPHGR.
  • Publication history: The journal’s origins date to 1347 in the Iranian calendar (1968–1969), when it first appeared as a supplement to the journal of the Faculty of Literature and Humanities.

Aims and scope

The journal covers physical geography, geomorphology, climate and climate change, environmental planning and management, remote sensing, environmental hazards, and geography and water resources. Research papers and review articles should make a clear contribution to these fields. See the full aims and scope and manuscript requirements.

Peer review and editorial responsibility

Manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment. Suitable submissions are evaluated through double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers. The editor makes the final publication decision; submissions involving editors or board members are handled independently to manage conflicts of interest. Read the peer-review process and meet the editorial board.

Initial assessment, peer review and final acceptance are different stages. Website statistics describe recorded submissions and decisions; they do not guarantee a decision date for a new manuscript. Authors can track their submission through their account.

Open access, copyright and publication fees

Published articles can be read and downloaded free of charge. Authors retain copyright. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license, which permits non-commercial sharing and adaptation with attribution, a link to the license and an indication of changes.

Submission fee: none. Publication fee: 9,000,000 Iranian rials (900,000 tomans), requested after acceptance for editing, typesetting and publication. Payment does not influence scientific evaluation or editorial decisions. See the author guidelines for fee details.

Publication ethics and research integrity

The journal follows COPE guidance and screens manuscripts for similarity. Its public policies address authorship, conflicts of interest, research data, ethical oversight, generative AI, complaints and appeals, and corrections or retractions. Read the publication ethics and malpractice statement before submission.

Preparing and submitting your manuscript

Submit and track manuscripts through the journal submission system. Prepare a separate title page and an anonymised manuscript for double-blind review. All authors must provide an ORCID iD. Follow the author guidelines for English abstracts, APA references, supporting files and the PDF similarity report.
